Information for Local Authorities
Fostering North East can provide the following types of foster placements to children of all ages and with differing needs:
Long-Term Fostering
We are able to provide permanent foster placements for children who are unable to live within their own families and specifically have a number of placements of children with complex medical and social needs. Young people are expected to remain in these placements until they reach independence and will receive full support and guidance from their Foster Carers to move into adulthood.
Short Break or Respite Fostering
In the belief that all children are best cared for within their immediate or extended families, short-break fostering can provide families with an organised programme of regular breaks, to enable them to continue to care for their children in the long-term. This service is particularly relevant for families with children who have a disability or complex needs and parents are struggling.
Short Term Fostering/Emergency Care
This ranges from a couple of weeks to a couple of years and can be provided if appropriate Foster Carers are available. Children placed in these circumstances will be anxious, distressed, even traumatised and Foster Carers receive a high level of support from the Agency at this time.
